The Village of South Range is located in Houghton County in the western part of Michigan's beautiful Upper Peninsula. Platted by a mining company in 1902, South Range was named for its location on the South Range just southwest of Houghton. The town became the business center for smaller clusters of miner's homes on the South Range. In 1913 the range's Copper Range Company was one of the three biggest employers, second only to Calumet and Hecla. We're a residential community of 800 people in the UP's Copper Country, with access to many outdoor activities--snowmobiling, cross-country and downhill skiing, hunting, fishing, boating, swimming, baseball, and so much more. Beautiful Lake Superior is nearby, as is Houghton, home of Michigan Tech University. Looking for a quaint cottage on a lake or log cabin in the woods? Need something that accommodates the whole clan?
